Deadlines extended for Eagle Scouts to apply for NESA scholarships

The deadline for this year’s scholarships has been extended to Feb. 12 to allow the inaugural class of female Eagle Scouts the opportunity to apply. Young women who have earned the Eagle Scout Award from Oct. 1, 2020, to Feb. 8, 2021, will be the inaugural group and have their Eagle Scout credentials dated Feb. 8, 2021.

2021 American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year

Nominations for the 2021 American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year award are now being accepted.  An applicant’s nomination packet must be received by their respective American Legion department headquarters no later than March 1, 2021. Award and application information is available at legion.org/scouting/nominate.  The American Legion Eagle Scout of the Year will receive a $10,000 scholarship. Three runner-up scholarship awards will be granted in the amount of $2,500 each.  Applicants that have questions or need additional information about their application, or the application process, should contact their respective American Legion department (state) headquarters. Special Edition of Scout Life Magazine for 2020 Eagles

To honor Scouts that earned the Eagle Scout rank in 2020, Scout Life magazine will publish a special digital edition, and you can purchase a space in it to congratulate a new Eagle Scout or class of Eagle Scouts. Boys’ Life magazine was renamed Scout Life in the January-February 2021 issue.

Plan a Court of Honor

Just as your unit would have a Court of Honor for other ranks and awards, a Court of Honor should be planned in the recognition of earning the rank of Eagle.  Some Courts of Honor are done for a single scout, while some are done with multiple scouts.

Glenn and Melinda Adams Service Project of the Year

The National Eagle Scout Association established the Glenn A. and Melinda W. Adams national Eagle Scout service project of the year award (ESSPY) to recognize valuable service of an exceptional nature by an Eagle Scout candidate to a religious institution, a school, community or other entity through completion of an Eagle Scout project.
