Guest Speaker: Reed Cowan

Reed Cowan is an anchor and executive producer serving our community as a journalist at KPIX TV, San Francisco’s legacy CBS station celebrating seven decades of service. Service is a hallmark of Cowan’s work, learned during his time earning his Eagle Scout as a teen in Utah in the 1980’s. In fact, one of his first merit badges was his communications merit badge. Reed grew up learning the Scouting values in Troop 248 in Roosevelt, Utah, in one of the most robust rural Scouting programs. Their patrol yell was “Out of the cellar, and into the sun, we are the rat patrol, and we’re number one.” Reed says he can and will explain, but only people who remember 1980’s music with elevated hair and leopard-print scarves with ripped jeans will understand. “Every success I’ve enjoyed in my life is born, in part, from the skills I learned in scouting,” says Reed. “It was foundational and I’m thrilled youth of all backgrounds can now enjoy learning what I learned.”
