The Boy Scouts of America announced the launch of the Citizenship in Society merit badge, its newest merit badge for youth in the Scouts BSA program. The new merit badge encourages Scouts to explore important topics around diversity, equity, inclusion, and ethical leadership and learn why these qualities are important in society and in Scouting. Beginning July 1, 2022, the Citizenship in Society merit badge will be required for any youth seeking to achieve the prestigious Eagle Scout rank.
The Golden Gate Area Council’s NESA Committee kindly request nominations for the 2021 NESA Outstanding Eagle Scout Award. Nominations can be submitted online and are due no later than 11:59 pm on November 7, 2021.

In 1976, the National Eagle Scout Association (NESA) committee established the NESA Distinguished Service Award. This award is given to recognize those who have given extraordinary leadership and service to NESA resulting in a significant impact on a national or regional level. It is given for dedicated service over a period of years to NESA, promotion and reengagement of Eagle Scouts and young people earning rank of Eagle Scouts. It is for lengthy national or regional to NESA/Eagle Scout service and not a distinguished citizen or person of the year award.

With help from volunteers, council professionals, and national professionals, the refreshed page preserves the history and prestige of each Distinguished Eagle Scout Award. Patrick Jaime and Melody Fewx were awarded the Western Region Venturing Leadership Award for 2021, during a Western Region Venturing Officers’ Association Open House.
